While other famous stalls had endless lines, the queue here moved quickly, so we hopped in. To our surprise, it was the best takoyaki of my life! My sister, who was on her second trip to Osaka, even said it was far better than the places she had waited hours for previously.
Later, I found out this place had been featured in the Michelin Guide. It was the epitome of “crispy on the outside, soft on the inside,” with octopus pieces the size of my thumb. It was a true hidden-in-plain-sight gem.
An Honest Kuromon Market Review and a Cat Rescue
Next on our list was the famous “Osaka’s Kitchen,” Kuromon Market. While it is a staple in many travel guides, I have to give a blunt Kuromon Market review: it was quite disappointing. The prices were shockingly high—a single crab leg cost as much as a mini-omakase course at a nice sushi restaurant. I ended up just having a piece of fruit and leaving. If you are looking for the charm of a traditional local market with reasonable prices, I strongly suggest you skip it.
However, the mood shifted when we found a tiny shop filled with cat plushies on the way to our next destination. I actually let out a loud scream—”Kyaaa!”—surprising everyone around me. There were so many chubby, adorable “fat cats” looking for their new owners. As a cat person, this unexpected encounter completely healed the disappointment I felt at the market.
Osaka Ultra Market Whisky: A Paradise for Collectors
Cheered up by the cats, we arrived at the Osaka Ultra Market whisky paradise. This place is a hybrid between a drugstore and a liquor shop, and it’s a holy grail for whisky lovers. They offer a wide variety of Japanese whiskies and sakes, and the staff is very welcoming to international travelers, offering convenient shipping services.
The main highlight of Ultra Market is definitely the tasting corner.

We ended our day at Izakaya Takumi Osaka. This isn’t a flashy, touristy restaurant; it’s a cozy, nostalgic place where locals go for a quiet drink after work.
The atmosphere was wonderfully warm and authentic, and the staff were incredibly kind. Sipping on cold beer and sake while enjoying honest, comforting snacks felt like pure happiness. However, because it is a local neighborhood spot, the food is quite standard—simple and traditional rather than groundbreaking. While I enjoyed the vibes, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a “must-return” spot, but it was a perfect way to wrap up our hectic day.
