However, moving to New York, the heart of fashion, reawakened my dormant passion for style.
While my daily reality in New York is more about being a “New-worker” than a glamorous “New Yorker,” I still dream of walking into work like the protagonist in The Devil Wears Prada, with a Starbucks in one hand and a perfectly curated outfit. The Gold Standard of Resale: NYC Luxury Vintage Shop WGACA
Located in SoHo, WGACA (What Goes Around Comes Around) feels less like a thrift store and more like a high-end luxury boutique. You can’t even open the door yourself; a guard must let you in, and once inside, you are greeted by stylists wearing white gloves. I’ll admit, I felt a bit intimidated at first by the formal atmosphere, but the sight of Chanel tweed jackets and Hermes bags behind the glass cases soon had me beaming with excitement.
This shop exclusively carries top-tier brands like Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. Everything is meticulously curated and displayed. My initial goal was to find a Chanel tweed jacket—a major trend this year. I tried on a beautiful dress priced at around $1,600, and while the fit wasn’t quite right for me, the selection was impressive. Most Chanel tweed pieces were hovering around the $2,000 mark.
The real showstopper, however, was the Hermes section. We all know that Hermes Birkin bags are nearly impossible to buy at retail without a significant “purchase history.” Even if you get the chance, you rarely get to choose the exact color or size. But at this NYC luxury vintage shop, you can choose from a well-maintained collection of various sizes and leathers. Prices generally ranged from $20,000 to $30,000, while Hermes Lindy bags were available for around $10,000. If owning an Hermes bag is on your bucket list, I highly recommend this spot.

If WGACA is a bit formal, The RealReal offers a much more casual and approachable shopping experience. Known primarily as an online giant, their SoHo flagship store is a paradise of high-end luxury and trendy designer brands. Since every item is authenticated by experts, it adds a layer of trust to your NYC luxury shopping journey.
What I love about The RealReal is the integration of tech; they have iPads throughout the store to check for additional discounts, and you can try on clothes freely without feeling pressure from the staff. I found a stunning leather coat by Dion Lee for about $600 and a classic Prada cardigan for $1,600. - Luxury Vintage Shops: The items are pre-owned, but you can find iconic, “evergreen” pieces like the Birkin or Chanel Classic Flap that are otherwise impossible to get.
Both have distinct advantages, so I suggest utilizing both depending on what you’re looking for. Life in New York isn’t always glamorous, but these small “wins” in finding a great deal provide a lovely spark to the daily grind.
